Fine artists Aadil Abedi and Babbuthepainter’s new collaboration is an exploration of love, friendship, nostalgia, and identity through architecture and calligraphy. Never having met before, and despite the traveling restrictions caused by COVID-19, the artists embarked on an artistic journey together.
Landmark buildings across India and Pakistan are at the center of this six painting series. Aadil and Babbu chose three monuments each that paid homage to their heritage, The Taj Mahal, Charminar, Badshahi Masjid, The Golden Temple, Nankana Sahib Gurdwara, and Takht Sri Patna Sahib, accompanied by a spoken word passage for each. Babbu painted the six monuments in Toronto, and shipped them over to Aadil in Washington D.C where he added his touch of calligraphy.
Eastern heritage, western upbringing, and showcasing the similarities in our faiths and cultures is the soul of this project. The collaboration is named “Rooh” translating to soul in both Arabic and Punjabi. The monuments that we chose for this series have so much history stored within each small crevice and represent a deep part of our cultural heritage.
Aadil and Babbu invite you to join them on their journey as they explore their heritage, together.
